A Historic Statement For Chiropractic Unity and Empowerment
November 10, 2003

At this past weekend’s Third Annual Masters Circle SuperConference, there was an astounding array of speakers, featuring both the cream of the chiropractic presenters (Guy Riekeman, Patrick Gentempo, Larry Markson, Bob Hoffman, Bill Esteb, etc.) and top shelf mainstream superstars like Wayne Dyer and Jack Canfield. There were exceptional performances by fresher faces like Lisa Zinberg, Alan Rousso, Janice Hughes, Peter Gratale, Jeff Culbert, Rick Markson, Brett Axelrod and Carol Ann Malizia. There was over-the-top Vegas-style production, with multi-color fiber optic lighting effects, high tech audio and video, and glitzy stage lift entrances and exits. There were five college presidents and dozens of political leaders and influence keys. And by content, it was an historic statement for chiropractic unity and empowerment. But the best part of the weekend for me was derived from a coming together of people — chiropractors, staff, spouses and students, 1800 strong, crystallizing into a cohesive body of wellness-driven humanity. The energy and vibration in the room were so potent, miracles were in the air.

Let me give you an example. With such a complex production, the equivalent of a three day Broadway play, the odds are against every detail going perfectly. As fate would have it, in the grand finale, there was to be a skit that ended with Bob Hoffman saying to Larry Markson and myself, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could visualize the highlights of the weekend?” At this point, we were supposed to close our eyes, the lights would go out, and a photo montage of the seminar would play. We’d then slip off the stage in darkness to dress for the closing.

After about twenty seconds, not hearing the music from the montage, I realized I still felt the heat of the lights, and opened one eye to reveal 1800 people staring and a wildly gesticulating A-V guy in the back of the room — the computer had crashed, and the montage was out. We made a few lame jokes, and left the stage to prepare for the last scene, but there were several minutes of dead space, a huge no-no for the climax of a three-day program.

From our dressing room, we suddenly heard an eruption of sound — apparently, one of our terrific Winners Circle members, Dr. Mitch Gordon of Norwalk CT, stood up and started the Masters Circle affirmation — “Today is a great day, and I have the opportunity to show up as the best me ever.” The crowd quickly caught on, and in an impromptu display of positive mob consciousness, before long the entire audience was standing on their chairs and affirming in unison “I think big thoughts, relish small pleasures and handle all setbacks gracefully.”

We re-entered the stage for the grand finale, not to a confused or disgruntled group, but to a participating, enthusiastic and accepting one. It was a magical demonstration of spontaneous optimism, the manifestation of three days of loving leadership, creativity and stimulation. I’ve never been prouder of our membership, who stepped up to bail us out in a deliciously ironic role reversal.

When people of like mind put their intention together, great things happen. Find a community within chiropractic that you relate to, and get involved — it makes a difference, and honestly, it feels good.
