Dear Doctor:

As most of you know, I have always been a big fan of Guy Riekeman, and was overjoyed when he took the helm at Palmer. In my opinion, the school flourished under his guidance, and I believe the numbers would bear me out. For whatever reasons, he is no longer at Palmer – I am politically savvy enough to realize that no matter how thin you slice it, there’s always two sides, so I can’t place blame, nor am I in any way suggesting an exodus away from supporting Palmer just because Guy is gone.

But I do feel that the induction of Dr. Riekeman as President of Life University heralds a new era in chiropractic education. With a sympathetic board of trustees and a clearer shot at instituting the changes he sees as necessary, he is in line to reposition Life as a major player in developing outstanding young chiropractors.

Indeed, the one-two punch of Riekeman and Dr. Gerry Clum at Life West creates the most potent force we’ve had in chiropractic education since BJ was running Palmer himself. While these are separate colleges, they are allies with an intimate relationship that can only broaden the appeal and make a definitive statement for the future of chiropractic.

Whatever your feelings about the prior regime at Life U, the reorganization leaves them with spectacular dreams and limited financial resources to see them through. As such, groups like The Masters Circle must rally behind them and help out in this time of need. It’s more than just saving a school – the laws of free enterprise will govern that. To me, it’s more an opportunity to show if all the chatter about unity really counts for anything when the chips are down – are we mature enough as a profession to understand the grave consequences of a school like Life going under, and are we willing as a body of chiropractors to step up and provide the energy, time and capital required to move this vital institution into the twenty-first century?

I’m calling on all chiropractors who care about our profession’s future to donate money to Life University. It doesn’t matter which school you graduated from – Life stands for something, a school that is making every effort to walk the line between preserving our traditions and marching into the new millennium. Once our largest school, it now needs both enrollment and dollars to survive – and we have a responsibility to help in every way possible.

Please, refer students to Life University – that will help in the long run. But for now, we must make sure they stay solvent, and they need over a million dollars before April 1 to stay afloat. Could you afford to give a dollar for each adjustment over the next two weeks? If so, please don’t wait – if you see a hundred people a week, please write a check today for two hundred to Life University, and mail it c/o The Masters Circle, 100 Jericho Quadrangle, Suite 140, Jericho NY 11753, so it gets processed immediately and forwarded to Life. And if you’re in the position to give more, please do – one of our doctors wrote a check for $10,000, and many gave five hundred, a thousand or more.

Chiropractors, we have a chance to show our power when we pull together – now is the time to put our money where our mouths are. You want unity? This is a bold step in that direction. Please give generously out of your abundance, and make a contribution to the destiny of wellness worldwide.
