Dear Doctor:
Spreading the word about the miraculous healing benefits of chiropractic care requires both a macro and a micro approach – yes, we need cooperation from the government, the media, and enthusiastic spokespeople who have the public’s attention, but we also have to act swiftly and compellingly at the grass roots level, with each chiropractor exercising his or her influence to impact as many health care consumers as possible.
On the macro level, it’s very much a money and power game – better lobbyists, more positive media coverage, properly timed and placed donations and the like will always be part of any multi-billion dollar industry. Unfortunately, other than picking (or becoming) good representatives and supporting causes financially, there isn’t a lot a doctor of chiropractic can do to influence this part of the process.
But there’s a lot each chiropractor can do at the community level, and that is no less important. Remember, it’s our neighbors who will suffer without chiropractic and flourish with it, and it’s up to us to get that story out to as many as we can.
Chiropractic not only helps people get well and stay well cost-effectively, it also enhances quality of life – how many patients report improvements that are unrelated to the complaint that brought them to your office? How many times each day do you hear about better digestion, breathing, immune system function, and dozens of other significant changes, including social and cognitive ones?
Whether or not we can explain every bit of this, people need to know about it, so they have the option to select chiropractic care for themselves and their families. Ignorance is preventing them from experiencing all life has to offer, and the connector is you – you are the one who has the opportunity and the responsibility to inform those people in your domain. Who else is supposed to do it?
Now, should you decide to accept this challenge, a pleasant side effect of telling anyone who will listen about the advantages of chiropractic care is that you will explode your practice, with many of these curious newcomers to chiropractic choosing you as their doctor. So, in essence, you’ll be serving the greater good, and reaping considerable personal rewards at the same time – do I have to make this seem any more appealing? It’s a true win-win-win, where people get healthier, you get more successful, and society is the ultimate beneficiary, with less dis-ease, more harmony and billions saved that can be reinvested into a culture of wellness and love.
s may sound utopian, but it really isn’t that far-fetched – depending on how many heed the call and arise to make a bold statement in the marketplace. In “The Wellness Revolution,” Paul Zane Pilzer suggests that some profession with the secrets to wellness is waiting in the wings for the time when our world will be ready to accept such a message. From my point of view, that time is rapidly nearing, and that profession is chiropractic. All the pieces are about to fall into place, regardless of the apparent turmoil – if and only if the field practitioners are up to the task of spreading the word. Are you? Let’s see you put your full effort into it, and watch what happens next.
