Challenge and the Pathway to Greater Success
August 15, 2005

Dear Doctor:

From the feedback on last week’s column on challenging yourself to higher achievement, it seems that what I have observed among Masters Circle members seems to be prevalent in the general chiropractic population as well – that many doctors of chiropractic are awakening to the opportunities that lie before them, and are eager to step up and be held accountable to raise and meet those increased standards.

Each of us has a gnawing sensation inside that reminds us that we can find new levels of accomplishment if we’re only willing to look for them and improve our game to approach them – and built into this simple comment is a pathway to greater success.

First, there must be a vision to pursue, a clarity of the objective that encourages the mind to form a target to aim at. Most believe the next step is to make a plan and take action, but no – there is a critical intermediary that sets the stage for such actions to discover their fruition – and that is the step of becoming, of enlarging ourselves to expose and access more of our potential, so the version of us that attempts this better result is an enhanced and more developed edition, equipped for the bigger game and the higher yield for the time and energy invested.

Inserting this step into the process of success is like turbo-charging all the other steps that follow – when you show up as a bigger and better you, then everything you do reflects that growth, and every action produces a more abundant return.

Identify key elements of your chosen work that require growth on your part, and specifically note the resources necessary, like persistence, focus, passion, self-discipline, proactivity, creativity – like the colors of an artist’s palette, these qualities can be used to paint your masterpiece. Be thorough without being overly judgmental – remember, your intention is to build yourself up, not beat yourself down.

Clearly, when you decide to play this bigger game, you’ll want to bring your best abilities and performances to the table. The combination of seeing the greater vision, and then aspiring to play at that higher level, tends to turn on the raw materials we are blessed with, and make them available for our plans and actions, leading to more fulfillment.

Think bigger, aim bigger, be bigger, act bigger – a simple formula, and a way for you to take yourself to new levels of growth and satisfaction.
