Luck, Where Preparation and Opportunity Meet
October 31, 2005

Dear Doctor:

I may be dating myself terribly by asking this question, but here goes – how many of you remember the way the old Bugs Bunny cartoon show used to begin? There was a fanfare, and then Bugs himself popped out with a bow tie, straw hat and cane, and launched into his opening number…

“Overture, purple lights,
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing, and nursing a part
We know every part by heart…”

I think the reason this image has stuck with me for all these years is that I relate to the message – if you want your show to be a hit, you’d better put the time, energy and capital into owning every detail, so you can be present and creative at showtime.

This weekend is our Fifth Annual SuperConference in Las Vegas, a three-day blockbuster that features not only many of the top speakers in our profession, but also the one and only Deepak Chopra, who has probably done more to promote natural, inside-out healing and wellness than any other doctor alive today.

There are those who would wish us good luck in this gargantuan venture, but those in the know realize that luck is where preparation and opportunity meet. We created our opportunity to reach as many chiropractors, families and staff as possible, and we have prepared obsessively and passionately for months, so we expect luck to be on our side.

I don’t know if you’ve ever participated in such an elaborate production, or even if you want to, but I can tell you one thing for sure – the more willing you are to prepare, the more likely your practice and your lifestyle will reflect that investment.

How lucky do you feel in your practice and your life? Create opportunities, and prepare thoroughly, and then, you can expect luck to go your way. It’s more than just the drift of a cosmic wind – you can tip the hand of fate by directing your attention effectively. Go the extra mile, and see all the good you can do, and all the rewards you can reap.
