Intelligent Investment in the Process of Becoming
January 23, 2006

Dear Doctor:

What motivates one chiropractor to do the things it takes to build a busy practice, and leaves another watching and wondering? Let’s look at a few simple, practical patterns.

First, the most successful doctors have a sense of purpose and vision for themselves and their practices. It’s easier to endure a present discomfort or pain if there is the promise of a greater future pleasure or benefit, and the commitment to an inspiring cause paves the way for the chiropractor’s willingness to take action.

Second, there must be a sense of optimism or positive expectancy, based on self esteem and a self-concept of competence, resiliency, and natural rightness. A worldview of faith and consistency with universal law, and a consciousness of abundance and prosperity, make it more likely that whatever strategies will bear fruit.

Next, a healthy evaluation of risk and reward reduces the fear factor, illustrates the possibilities and foretells potential pitfalls. No big winner I know spends too much time on this, but every one of them looks there to understand the game they are playing.

The construction of a plan, and the appropriate attention to detail, then lead to the moment of truth, where swift, impactful and massive action is taken. Plans are shaped around the available data, and where gaps exist, those we admire most consistently demonstrate the habit of acting congruently, intensely, and with absolute confidence anyway, even if they don’t have the whole thing quite figured out yet – they believe they will be able to make the course corrections they need to, when they need to, and that brand of courage turns out to be an X-factor – the utter creative boldness that sculpts the desired reality out of the ethers. It is a marvelous spectacle to behold.

The last piece of this puzzle is to go until, to have the stamina and persistence to keep plugging no matter what it takes. The game of life and success is winnable, and those who rise to championship status are those who pay the ultimate price -- full engagement, a great attitude, and an intelligent investment in the process of becoming.
