Dear Doctor:
In the last several weeks, we’ve talked a lot about time and energy management, in preparation for the New Year, to put ourselves in the best possible position to succeed. This week, Dr. Bob Hoffman and I had an extraordinary opportunity to brainstorm with two best-selling authors, two of the top business minds of the last thirty years. I will tell you more about that historic meeting at a later date, but for now let’s focus on a technique that can literally change your life – the Master Mind principle.
Masterminding has been going on since before language, when our ancestors had to come together to design methods of survival, and realized that their pooled resources outperformed anything they could do alone. Fight it as some of us may, relationship leads to betterment, and when you actively seek to work with others who can contribute to the foundation and momentum of your quest, you will delight in the myriad flavors, hues and distinctions that manifest, and revel in the improved results.
Sometimes self esteem issues may interfere with the process, either because a lack of confidence makes the intimacy too frightening, or one’s overzealousness or stubbornness might distract from the subtle formation of the Master Mind vibration. You must define boundaries to encourage openness and full engagement – the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and the group consciousness reveals information and perspective that somehow transcends what you’d expect from simply adding the talents and abilities of those participating. When all agree to maintain a code of conduct and standards that works for everyone, something special happens, a phenomenon that produces a creativity that titillates, inspires, and generates enthusiasm, motivation and willingness to take action.
Which, of course, is the reason I bring it up here. You are coming into a new year, and if you want to make this year memorable, masterminding is a great help. If you already have experience getting together regularly to think, imagine, discuss and plan, then get re-committed to the process for 2007. If you don’t have a group, you can look for an established mastermind that is accepting new participants, jump in and they’ll help you get acquainted.
If you are new to masterminding, then you can get started by inviting a few people you respect and who respect you, whose experiences could add to yours, to get together to share some thoughts and ideas about success, to get and give some informal advice perhaps, but most of all to create a group thinking approach where you come together periodically to talk and invoke the power of the Master Mind. You can also consider coaching, another form of masterminding – if you are not being coached, this is a great way to get your feet wet with having others help you along your chosen path.
When Napoleon Hill talked about the Master Mind in “Think and Grow Rich” and “Laws of Success,” he dialed in to a secret most people will never use, because their fear and insecurity, their modesty or their obstinacy prevents them from even getting started. But through the Master Mind principle, you can develop a source of support, energy and love that’s hard to get any other way. Apply the power of the Master Mind – meet, dream, share and grow, and help others you care about do the same.
