Reorganizational Healing and Wellness
January 22, 2007

Dear Doctor:

A good time was had by all at “The Master Plan 2007,” the Masters Circle seminar held in Dallas this weekend. Along with outstanding presentations by industry leaders like Guy Riekeman and Bob Hoffman, in attendance were top shelf healers like Dick Versendaal of CRA, Sue and Ted Morter of BEST, Bill Doreste of Cranial Release Technique, Ken Davis of Natural Force Healing, and world class extremity experts Mark Charrette and Mitch Mally, a literal Who’s Who of progressive thinkers.

A high point for me was hearing Donald Epstein’s observations on Reorganizational Healing and Wellness. Always at the cutting edge of contemporary thought, Donny, the founder of Network Spinal Analysis, was as impish and insightful as ever, clever, relevant and playful, a genuinely brilliant mind.

Is your orientation in practice around restoring the pre-disease condition, or finding a new level of experience? Traditional approaches seek a return to “normalcy” as opposed to seeing the current situation as a springboard or gateway to break through to a new reality. Comparing “restorative healing” to “reorganizational healing” begs the question of where wellness fits in – is it merely the absence of measurable disease, or is it about potential, awareness and higher consciousness?

Epstein re-languages and intensifies the discussion of mechanism vs. vitalism – if wellness is about the status quo, then the process can be described as restorative, and the best outcome you can anticipate would be health – not a bad outcome, but is it all that true wellness offers?

With the concept of reorganizational healing, he opens the door to a new way of looking at wellness, as a method of growth and further self actualization, not just achieving a favorable symptomatic profile. Reorganization refers to an intelligent application of natural forces to find a new configuration, an adaptive creative process that improves upon and surpasses the previous best.

This perspective adds considerable value to the chiropractic adjustment, not only as a treatment that provides relief and restores a stable condition, but as an avenue to personal development that reveals new resources and implements new physiological strategies, leading to a new worldview.

What really happens when someone lives relatively free of interference to normal function? Can the intelligence of the body really grow it beyond typical adult maturation, to blaze new trails in human potential? Is this a way to understand evolution, to explain why civilizations thrive or perish, to validate success philosophy, appreciating the present while eying a future of abundance?

We have yet to fully understand the power of an adjustment. We must do more to comprehend the patterns the body/mind chooses to address its various issues. Only by doing so can we expect to cooperate with the intention of healing, and invite new dimensions of human experience, through reorganized, enhanced function, and an ever-expanding sense of self, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It may turn out to be our contribution to the advancement of the species.
