Another New Year, another set of resolutions – are you serious about them, or is it just an exercise? You’re better off aiming at something you believe you can do and are motivated to follow through on, rather than just picking something you think you should do without committing to it. It’s the commitment, after all, that creates the motion and the persistence, because guess what? It may not go exactly as you plan, and that means you must be light enough on your feet to handle the adversity, reset your course and carry on with the same or even more drive and intensity.

Goals are guidelines that direct your focus and attention, but the real power of goal setting is in the decision making – what are you willing to invest to get what you want? What will you bring to the opportunity? How will you respond to challenges and distractions? How will you act when you have accomplished the goal?

When we talk about success being a journey, not a destination, this is the essence of it – who do you become as a result of the goals you set, and how do you transform yourself into the best you possible, using those goals as milestones along the way?

The surest way to hit your target is to raise your standards – by expecting more of yourself, not unreasonably more, but more, you blaze new trails and set the stage for your best year yet. Select your objectives accordingly, prepare to outperform your previous best, and watch success unfold before your very eyes.
