Welcome to this week’s Thrive In Five. I’m Dr. Bob Hoffman for the Master Circle Global, where we build the most successful practices through chiropractic coaching. Today, we’re going to discuss how to tell if your statistics confirm or contradict your beliefs that you’re a great educator because we’re going to review another colleague who took the time to complete the practice growth calculator. The doctor who completed this actual practice growth calculator, his first name is Steph and Dr. Steph selected as her greatest strength that she’s a great educator and we’ll see if she’s right or wrong, or if she’s been misleading herself. Steph is doing beautifully attracting 40 new patients a month, and she has an OVA of $75 collected per visit on average, but the gaping hole in her practice, or said another way, the greatest opportunity to take our practice to the next level is with her PVA. Currently, her PVA is 10. This is an average of 10 visits per new patient to correct years of neurological damage. As a result, she takes care of 400 patient visits a month and currently collects about $30,000.

PVA is such an important and interesting statistic as it tells us the doctor’s philosophy, beliefs, and values. It tells us about her persuasion skills, her ability to influence others, her ability to earn the patient’s trust and her ability to hold the patient compliant. In addition, it tells us about her confidence and certainty level in making honest and effective recommendations to all of her patients.

Now, I’m not one to judge, but great educator as your greatest strength is just not showing up with her PVA and that’s keeping her trapped in a practice that’s not reflecting how terrific I’m sure she really is. And so is her belief that she is a great educator because she should be working hard every day on becoming a better educator, becoming more persuasive and more influential.

If I could just make one simple and easy to accomplish change or improvement in Steph’s practice that would generate significantly more growth, it would be to increase her PVA, and I would start conservatively as I always do to just grow a PVA initially from 10 to 15 visits per new patient on average for now. So now, 40 new patients a month at a 15 PVA is going to generate 600 visits, an extra 200 visits a month, and 600 visits a month at her OVA of $75 per visit will produce an income of $45,000 a month, which will be $15,000 more a month than current or $180,000 more a year from just one simple, easy to accomplish, ultra conservative change as long as she knows what to focus on and how to improve this one statistical shift.
