Welcome to this week’s Thrive in Five. I’m Dr. Bob Hoffman for The Masters Circle Global, where we build the most successful practices through chiropractic coaching. Today, we’re going to cover another real case study from one of our colleagues who completed the Practice Growth Calculator. Christopher tells us that his practice averages 20 new patients a month, with a PVA of 10, and an OVA of $35. We all know that we can always do better, and we always strive to do better, but honestly, Christopher’s 20 new patients a month is good and it really doesn’t need to increase, which of course goes against everything our profession markets and advertises.

We’ve been bombarded, all of us, for decades about everyone trying to sell us on more new patients, “Press this button or buy this product and you’ll get 25 more new patients next month.” First, their ideas and their products rarely work. And second, they aren’t necessary for most to grow their practice. His 20 new patients a month is solid, and where Christopher is hurting, his weak areas are with the other two linchpins. His 10 PVA is still way below average, and his $35 office visit collection would have been ideal if this was 1987. He needs a few small changes and will reap the rewards of some very big results. Improve these two linchpins, these two concerns will be like throwing a pebble in the ocean and creating a tsunami result. His calculator, when he filled it out, projected a $42,000 increase, but I’ll show you how to make it into $108,000 increase if you just follow along.

Let’s start out conservatively with a laser focus on growing and expanding his PVA from 10 to just 20. A PVA of 20 is still less than half of what the average Masters Circle doctor accomplished last year. And my second expert recommendation will be to expand his collection per visit, his OVA, from $35 to just 40, which also is still well below the average for the profession. And let’s see what happens. Well, 20 new patients at a 20 PVA will now generate 400 visits a month compared to the 200 visits a month he’s now taking care of. So one simple change literally doubles his visits. Now 400 visits a month times $40, the new OVA, will generate an income of $16,000 a month. He’s currently collecting only 7,000 a month. So you could see that this additional change will increase his income by $9,000 a month, or said in another way, by $108,000 a year.

Clearly these two changes cost nothing, they require no additional equipment to purchase or lease, and doesn’t even require hiring another staff person, and will more than double his annual collections. In the business world this is called profit. This is how you gain rapid traction and growth. And this is how you go from being barely able to pay your bills to paying down debt and accumulating wealth. I don’t know this for certain, but I’m willing to bet the ranch than an additional $108,000 a year of profit will transform Christopher’s life. Of course, with proper coaching, we’ll have to get into specific and real details on exactly what is best in class today to raise his PVA and to raise his OVA.
